WhatsApp messages work well when customers can find the information they need quickly. But when you want to showcase several products, compare service options, or share different offers, sending a separate message for each option can make the conversation longer than necessary.

WhatsApp carousel templates offer a more visual way to do this. You can present multiple swipeable cards in a single message, with each card containing its own image or video, text, and buttons.

With Pepper Cloud, you can create these templates through a visual builder, preview how they will appear, submit them to Meta for approval, and send them once approved, all without writing API code.

## **What are WhatsApp carousel templates?**

A WhatsApp Carousel Template is a message format that displays multiple cards in one message. Customers can swipe through the cards, view the information on each one, and interact with the available buttons.

For example, a business selling office furniture could showcase three office chairs in a single carousel. Each card could contain a product image, a short description, and a Visit Website button linking to that product.

Each carousel can contain 2 to 10 cards. Every card requires media, body text, and at least one button.

In Pepper Cloud, admins can create, preview, submit, manage, clone, and send Carousel Templates from the CRM.

## **How businesses can use carousel templates**

Carousel Templates are particularly useful when you need to present several related options in one WhatsApp message.

### **E-commerce and retail**

Showcase multiple products in a single message, with each card displaying a product image, a short description, and a link to view the product.

For example, a clothing retailer could present three new arrivals, allowing customers to browse each item and visit the relevant product page.

### **Service businesses**

Help customers explore different services without sending multiple messages.

A marketing agency could use separate cards to showcase SEO, paid advertising, and social media management services, with each card linking to the relevant service page.

### **Offers and promotions**

Present different packages or promotional offers in one carousel. A travel company, for example, could showcase several holiday packages, each with its own image, description, and website button.

### **Lead generation**

Give prospects a simple way to explore relevant products or services and respond to the option that interests them. This can help start a more focused follow-up conversation.

## **How to create a WhatsApp carousel template**

Pepper Cloud provides a no-code builder, so you do not need to create the carousel through API requests.

### **Step 1: Set up the template**

Start by entering the basic template information:

- **Template name:** Give the template a recognisable name.
- **Category:** Select Marketing or Utility, depending on your account's API support.
- **Language:** Choose the language for the template.

Note that Authentication templates are not supported for WhatsApp carousels.

### **Step 2: Add your cards**

Add between **2 and 10 cards** to the carousel.

For each card, you need to provide:

- Media: An image or video.
- Body text: The message or description displayed on the card.
- Buttons: At least one and no more than two.

You can use different images, descriptions, and button values across the cards, allowing each one to present a different product, service, or offer.

### **Step 3: Upload your media**

Carousel cards support images and videos, but not documents, audio files, or GIFs.

Use the following supported formats and limits:

| Media type | Supported format | Maximum size |
| ---------- | --------------------------- | ------------ |
| Image | JPG, JPEG, PNG | 5 MB |
| Video | MP4 (H.264 video/AAC audio) | 16 MB |

**Important:** All cards in a carousel must use the same media type. You can create an image carousel or a video carousel, but you cannot mix images and videos in the same template.

### **Step 4: Configure the buttons**

Each card must have at least one button and can have up to two. Pepper Cloud supports these button types:

- **Visit Website:** Direct customers to a relevant webpage.
- **Quick Reply:** Let customers respond using a predefined reply.
- **Call Phone Number:** Give customers an option to call a specified number.

There is one important rule to remember: every card must have the same number of buttons, with the same button types in the same order.

For example, if the first card has a Visit Website button followed by a Quick Reply button, every other card must follow that same structure.

However, the button values can differ. You can use a different URL, phone number, button text, or quick-reply text on each card.

### **Step 5: Preview the carousel**

Before submitting your template, use the live preview to check how the cards will appear in WhatsApp.

Review the media, body text, and buttons on each card. Check that the images or videos match the content and that the buttons direct customers to the correct destinations.

This is also a good time to check that all cards follow the required media and button rules.

## **Submitting templates for approval**

Once your carousel is ready, submit it to Meta for approval through Pepper Cloud.

Meta reviews the template and determines whether it can be used. Pepper Cloud displays the status received from Meta.

| Status | What it means |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| Draft | The template has been saved but not submitted. |
| Pending | The template is awaiting Meta's review. |
| Approved | The template is approved and can be sent. |
| Rejected | Meta has declined the template. |
| Disabled | A previously approved template has been disabled. |

You must wait until the template is "Approved" before sending it. If Meta rejects the template, review the reported validation issues and make the necessary corrections before resubmitting.

## **Sending and managing carousel templates**

Once a template is approved, you can send it through Pepper Cloud AI CRM.

You can also clone an existing Carousel Template when you need a similar version for another product, campaign, or service. Cloning gives you a starting point instead of requiring you to build the entire carousel again.

You can manage your templates within Pepper Cloud CRM, including reviewing their approval status and deleting templates you no longer need.

Keep in mind that carousel creation follows Meta's structural requirements. Using supported media, including all mandatory card content, and maintaining a consistent button structure across cards will help you avoid preventable submission errors.
